Building Capacity for Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Year: 2022Location: SMS Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur

Preparing for the Next Generation of Surgery

General Surgery and Urology at SMS Medical College were identified as strong surgical departments, while robotic-assisted surgery was recognised as an important technology for the institution’s future development.

The institutional plan highlighted the potential of robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery to support greater precision, smaller incisions and faster recovery in appropriate procedures.

Hands-on Exposure to Robotic Surgery

In May 2022, the Department of Urology at SMS Medical College collaborated with Intuitive India for a four-day hands-on robotic-assisted surgery workshop using the Da Vinci Xi system. The programme introduced surgeons and residents to robotic-assisted surgery, its clinical applications and simulation-based training.
